| The Rainbow Bridge |
|
|
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow
Bridge. When an animal who has been especially close to someone dies, that pet goes to the Rainbow
Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
Animals who were ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them from times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one thing: they miss someone very special to them; the person they left behind. All of the animals run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are focused and his eager body quivers. Suddenly he breaks away from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. Happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Now you cross the Rainbow Bridge together…

Last night you were crying, sad thoughts made you weep. So I slept by your bed until you drifted off
to sleep. I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear, "I'm sorry that I had to go,
when you need me I'll be here."
I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea. You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me. I stood next to you at the front door when you fumbled for your key, I gently put my paw on you, hoping you would know its me. When you came home you looked so tired, and sank into your chair. I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there. You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you. It's possible for me to be near you everyday. I live on in your memories, a happy thought away. And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide, I'll run across to greet you, and once again stand by your side. I have so many things to show you, there is much for you to see. Be patient, live your journey out...then come home to be with me.

If it should be that I grow weak and pain should keep me from my sleep, then you must do what must be done. For this last
battle can not be won.
You will be sad, I understand, but don't let sorrow stay your hand. For this day more than all the rest, your love for me must stand the test. We've had so many happy years, what is to come can hold no fear. You wouldn't want me to suffer so, the time has come, please let me go. Take me where my need they will tend, and if you can, stay with me 'till the end. Hold me gently and speak softly to me, until my eyes no longer see. I know that in time you will see, the kindness that you did for me. Although my tail its last has waved, from pain and suffering I have been saved. I am so sorry, but it must be you who has this painful thing to do. We've been so close, we two, these years, so don't let your heart hold back its tears.

Greyhound adopter, and would like to have your Greyhound's name listed at the Rainbow Bridge, then please send
me an email at greyadopt1@aol.com with the following information: your dog's name, racing name,
birth and death dates and a few sentences or paragraphs on how your Greyhound touched your heart.
If you can, also send a 640x480 pixel size or larger, in focus, clear digital photo of your Greyhound as a JPEG (.jpg) email attachment to be posted on your dog's memorial page. Memorial letters may be edited for content and length. As my job duties keep me very busy, memorial web pages may take several days or weeks to complete. If you haven't already, then please take a little time to look at a few of the 'Pet Loss and Grieving' links listed above. I personally checked out each web site and found a wealth of excellent information and links to related web sites. I hope that something you read on one of these sites will comfort you and help you work through the grieving process. Lastly, I would like to convey my deepest sympathies to all who have lost a beloved Greyhound. I am truly sorry for your loss. Three of my sweet Greyhounds passed away in 2005 and I lost another in 2007. I know how difficult it can be. It is often very difficult to read the memorials and tributes that are emailed to me for inclusion on the web site, without getting tears in my eyes. I hope that everyone experiencing this loss will find a little peace in knowing that you did the best you could and gave your Greyhound a good life as a loved family pet.
