| In Loving Memory of
Kid's Farley (Farley) July 1996 - June 2004 |

We adopted Kid's Farley shortly after his littermate, Kid's Gonzo, lost his battle to bone cancer in March 2001. It was
fate the day I scanned the Greyhounds that were available for adoption on the Recycled Racer's web site and saw a Kid's
Greyhound pictured. I rarely look at the Greyhound adoption pages because I want to adopt them all. That day I
needed to see those soulful and naïve eyes, and there he was, Kid's Farley. He had the same beautiful Brindle tan coat,
wide coal colored nose and crooked smile. As I told my husband of my find he said, "well he's a relative, we have to
adopt him, let's go visit him." I was so excited and my heart enlightened when I heard my husband's words. Within
a week, Kid's Farley, was at home with us and our menagerie of animals.
Farley and Gonzo shared the same idiosyncrasies; loving scratches under the chin, the naïve and inquisitive looks, anxiety of thunderstorms and a love for extra long naps. Unfortunately, they also shared a propensity for bone cancer. Farley's diagnosis was grave and it would only be months until he reached the Rainbow Bridge. We opted for pain control for Farley since amputation was not a necessity as his bones were still intact. However, the cancer spread to his lungs within 3 months and he became congested and panted heavily. Farley confronted his disease so stoically but we knew differently. At the end, no amount of pain pills could help him, Farley was miserable. As Farley lay on my jacket and blanket on the floor of my veterinarian's exam room, I slowly stroked his head and neck and repeated softly into his ears, "No more thunderstorms, Farley, no more thunderstorms. You can run without pain now...go run with Gonzo, he's waiting for you." Afterwards, I couldn't take my eyes off of him, as he never looked so calm and peaceful. I know he made it to a better place. My husband and I plan to adopt more Greyhounds because the companionship of a Greyhound is on a higher plain and more comforting than many other living things we've encountered.
