I got Willie McCoy directly from the track and he loved to exercise hard for about 4 years after I got him. He was a good
friend and companion for Walker and Delta (my other Greyhounds), and also me. Willie came down with a rapid growing
form of bone cancer. He was put down on 12/17/00, when the pain got to the point that morphine wasn't working anymore.
The vet said I did the right thing. Willie really loved to run. In fact, he had to go for a short walk even
on the last day of his life.
Walker (who raced as Unabridged), passed away on 12/20/02, two years after Willie. He died from congestive heart failure and was very well treated by the caring doctors at Tiara Rado Animal Hospital. Walker only developed heart problems about 6 months before he died. Thankfully he did not experience much cardiac distress until the last 2 or 3 days of his life. Sadly, on 6/21/04 my last Greyhound, Delta Dream, died of heart failure and chronic kidney failure. Delta was a very kind and considerate dog. She tried very hard to get along with everyone, even cats. When I was gone on business trips, I used to leave her with a lady who had a large grouping of different animals, one of them a ferret. Delta and the ferret played together a lot. She was a really sweet Greyhound who made the world a better place by her presence. Willie McCoy, Walker and Delta were the nicest Greyhounds I've ever known and I am deeply saddened by their passing. I miss my three Greyhounds so very much.
