In Loving Memory of

Nokota Chief (Chief)     7/11/90 - 5/30/02

Chief (Nokota Chief) lost his battle with bone cancer at 4:30 PM on May 30, 2002.  He developed a tumor on the upper bone of his left shoulder and the growth accelerated at a speed even the vet was shocked at.  Chief was the joy of our lives and we are devastated by his loss.

Upon his initial diagnosis of cancer in April 2002 we were told that amputation and chemo would be his best options...due to his advanced age we decided against such drastic surgery.  We did however contact a doctor in Australia who has been following/treating bone cancer and lymphatic cancer with herbal remedies.  We did partake in this but Chief's cancer was accelerating much too quickly.  The tumor at his shoulder had grown 2 1/2 times its original size in just over a month.  We would have given anything for this treatment to work but Chief simply ran out of time.

Chief was in a great deal of pain and it was time to let him go.  He conveyed that to me the other night; I will never forget that look in his eyes as he gazed up at my face...."Help me, Mom".

Chief was a great dog, he laid with the cats, the rabbits, the other dogs and even shared the bed with us on chilly nights.  He had a great sense of humor too.  He loved to drag the toilet paper from the roll throughout the house and even got into a sack of flour!  Imagine the tell tale signs of flour on a black dog's face and his expression saying, "I didn't do it".  He danced when the leashes were brought out.  He dropped to the ground in the middle of a walk if he got tired and only got up when he was ready.  He danced for his dinner, he could chew a rawhide with the best of them (with few teeth left) and he could chow a biscuit even faster.

He now runs with Whitey at the Rainbow Bridge.  Chief will be greatly missed and I want to thank Recycled Racers for giving me the opportunity to give him a good life.
